Lacombe Globe permanently closed

Postmedia closed the Lacombe Globe, effective Jan. 16.

Postmedia issued a statement saying, “The closure is not a decision we take likely: we know that the Globe has been important to Lacombe and the surrounding area for the last 119 years.

They said the closing of the newspaper is because it’s “no longer financially viable.”

The newspaper was founded in 1901.

The final issue was Jan. 16.

Other central Alberta papers were shuttered in the last couple of years.

Postmedia closed the Camrose Canadian in August 2018.

Black Press closed the Red Deer Express in 2019.
