Lacombe city council highlights

Lacombe city council approved a 0.9 per cent increase to water and wastewater utility rates during its regular meeting Jan. 27.

Solid waste rates will remain unchanged from 2019. The combined utility bill increase for the year for an average household will be about $1.14 per month or about $13.68 for the year.

WCPS meets with city

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) Board Chair Pamela Hansen, trustees Kelly Lowry and Brent Buchanan, along with Superintendent of Schools Jayson Lovell and Roger Hall, secretary-treasurer, presented an overview and update of business of mutual interest between the city and WCPS

School programming in the community was discussed, along with a desire to work closely with municipal partners on common goals. Highlighted items included WCPS’ 2019-2020 budget and recent impacts to its reserves, the city’s support of various school-based programming, and discussion of areas that need further jurisdictional coordination. Council was also invited to attend a poverty simulation exercise on March 6, 2020,
in Bentley.

Stocking Len Thompson Fish Pond

Council approved a $3,000, five-year sponsorship of the Alberta Conservation Association fish stocking program at the Len Thompson Fish Pond Park, to increase stocking levels and maintain good angling
opportunities for local families and visitors.

Reallocating rec funds

Following recommendations from the Lacombe and District Recreation, Parks and Culture Board and the Bill Nielsen Trail Society, council voted to reallocate budgets from the “Michener Rec Area,” “Wolf Creek Hwy 12 to
Fish Pond,” and the “Trans Canada NE of Henners” trail capital projects to two higher priority projects, the “Fairway Heights Willow Ridge Network” and “Elizabeth Lake 300m Boardwalk” trail capital projects, for completion in 2020.

Regional meetings

Council directed administration to arrange an informal meeting with the Town of Blackfalds council and senior administration on May 4, 2020.

Motions out of camera
Council provided direction to human resources staff to proceed with the administration of the annual performance review for CAO Matthew Goudy based on the existing process.
